Even if you’ve been camping with your parents, if you’ve never been camping alone, there are afew pointers you should know.
Firstly, although it may seem like a lot of effort for nothing, you will want to check your tent and other equipment. In the yard, about a week before you leave, set up the tent in the back yard. This allows you to check that you have all the tent pegs, poles and ropes needed to put the tent up properly. If it rains water will likely come in through the roof and the floor, so make sure to check for any holes.
Make sure there is not a hole in the inflatable mattress if you are bringing one, whether you have an air mattress or not be sure to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. Falling asleep on a full matress and waking up on the ground is not enjoyable. Take an extra blanket in case the temperature drops at night.
In case of cooking at the campsite, be sure to bring anything you will need to make a meal. Pack a crate for a fire to grill, 2 small pots, cutlery and anything else you can think of that you will use to cook. A small gas cooker is ideal, as you wonít want to start a fire every time you feel like a cup of coffee. Consider refilling the gas before you leave. To keep clean dishes you will want to bring any necessary cleaning materials.
Your non perishable foods should be tightly sealed and unopened to avoid all spills. Donít forget condiments and spices, often the las thing you think of packing. To avoid getting dry food wet, keep liquids in platic bags. Also try to keep all of your food in one general container so you can use it as a pantry during your camping trip. Buy perishables as you need them, If you decide to bring them, keep it at a minimum and pack them just before you leave.
You must provide all your own toiletries, often including toilet tissue. Sometimes you may even need your own bath plug, so take a couple of different sizes just in case. If the campsite has communal ablutions, take plastic thongs to wear in the bathroom. A small bag or basket can help keep all of your belongings together while heading to the shower.
You can go to a local store and purchase some of the things you will need, unless you are at a completely remote campsite. Planning a well organized trip will help you relax when you arrive so you can enjoy all of the nature and feel very accomplished.
